Job Profile

The Hospital Administrator will be responsible for the administration of all the operations in Kakuma Mission Hospital. The post holder will be expected to develop, implement and monitor compliance with the administrative policies, procedures, regulations and standards that ensure effective service delivery at all levels in the Hospital. The job holder will also ensure that the strategic, business objectives and values are established.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and accountability in the management of services (human resources, facilities, equipment and supplies) for the hospital and ensure prudent use of resources
  • Provide overall guidance and direction to the Hospital Management Team and all departments
  • Ensure effective participation and contribution to the Hospital Management Team and other management bodies
  • Communicate and clarify the hospital’s policies, and procedures, to support staff in adhering to all regulations and standards
  • Ensure existence of adequate human resource management policies, procedures, structures, and systems, and enforce compliance.
  • Ensure timely recruitment, selection, and placement of staff as per the workforce planning and staffing establishments
  • Ensure that the hospital has a well-managed staff development plan including effective performance management and annual performance appraisal system
  • Work in close collaboration with the senior accountant to coordinate the development and monitoring of the hospital’s budget, developing forecasts for the hospital’s requirements and specifications for facilities and equipment
  • Review and make recommendations on capital expenditure while ensuring that fees charged are in conformity with scales of fees authorized by the Board of Management
  • Oversee the effective maintenance of the property, facilities, equipment, grounds, and other physical resources used by the hospital staff, visitors, and patients
  • Ensure that the hospital has appropriate procurement and contract management policies that are aligned to its strategies and objectives
  • Responsible for the management of all outsourced business activities, functions or processes, guide management on appropriate procedures for outsourcing and effectively advise on the risks associated with all existing and proposed outsourcing arrangements
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders including donors, government departments and agencies, NGOs, other health service providers, and private sector organizations.

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management/Business Administration or Healthcare from a recognized institution
  • A Master’s degree in Health Administration or Business Administration, Strategic Management or Public Health would be an added advantage
  • A minimum of three year’s experience in a healthcare facility as a Hospital Administrator or in a senior management position
  • Member of a hospital board is an added advantage
  • Sound knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare environment
  • Proficient knowledge or business functions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated with the capacity to work under pressure
  • An organized approach and excellent time management skills
  • The ability to work well as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, and Excel)
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
